My inspiration: What if Tom Riddle had a twin?
Back to Basics;;

Nickname/Alias: Valen

Personality: Mature, cultured, brilliant, reserved, introverted, observer, perceptive, great ambition but not one for execution, his mind is his greatest asset, good natured , will intervene for injustice, slow to trust others, especially adults, believing they are corrupt, realist, at first, he refuses success through manipulation (like his twin), but he soon blurs the lines of his morality
Likes: Reading, experimenting, nightly detours into the Muggle world via his Animagus, collecting artifacts, receiving the Muggle newspaper at breakfast, eavesdropping in the faculty lounge, writing anonymous submissions to the Daily Prophet, planning ways to infiltrate the Ministry
Dislikes: Vapid activities, unwarranted cruelty, corruption, stupidity, war, asymmetry, snakes (not scared of them, but is not particularly fond)
Phobias: Abandonment, the unconscious state (he’s not in control)

Past Lovers/Friends/Enemies: Never been in a relationship, Hagrid used to be a friend until his expulsion in ’43
Backstory: Not much of a backstory. When he was 11, he got accepted into Hogwarts like any other wizarding child. Up until that point, he was home schooled with Tom.
Interesting fact: Valen never acknowledged his brother as the “The Dark Lord”- only Tom. The brothers share a mutual resentment, but they never act upon it. Tom simply ignores the existence of his brother and the two carry on their lives (as long as Valen does not tarnish the Gaunt family name).
