I read the canon description of Newt Scamander, but since this FF chronicles his research and exploration prior to the publication of FBWFT, there’s not much canon for me to abide by, except that he worked at the Ministry for a while before he was commissioned to write the book. Capiche?
Basically, everything about Newt that is known is included in my portrayal. However, there is nothing known in regards to his personality so I made it up. Completely. I would say it’s like a half-OC.

Strengths: Compassion (shows through occasionally), wit, youth, dedication, self-discipline, courage, foresight, experience

The Physical;;
Height: 5’ 11”

Figure/Build: Fit, runner’s body (get's a bit like Mycroft when he's older)
Appearance: Short and practical black hair (even though Pureblood heirs typically have long, regal hair), cobalt eyes, clothing and hair may be at times in disarray from running, chasing, and/or tackling creatures, a few scars from 6 eventful years of travel
Health Status: Overall healthy
Voice/Speech: Though his mum’s side is from Ireland, his childhood and adolescence was spent in Bristol, Somerset -his father’s home- and London (for Hogwarts), thus he has an English accent.
Typical Clothing: Simple robes (refuses to wear the ones with the family crest) and sometimes, his ‘thinking cap’

Accessories: An unpatented invention- a pocketwatch that detects nearby magical creatures and their hazard rating, a wooden wand holster, a mokeskin pouch, a belt that holds vials, mostly antidotes (he obviously never brews them himself- Flamel does that)
No, Sleeves, this is not Scamel slash.
Most prized possessions are his hippogriff feather quill and a lamia skin notebook (quite a story behind this particular acquisition)
The Mental;;
Likes: Reading through Flamel’s archives, using his Animagus form, sleeping under the stars, teaching Eccleon, visiting his mother, burning the Daily Prophet (rubbish even back then), keeping an eye on Muggle affairs, filling in CoMC classes at Hogwarts
Dislikes: Unwarranted cruelty, pureblood fanaticism, mistreatment of creatures and House Elves, attempts to thwart death (the only thing he and Flamel disagreed on), industrialism, pretentiousness, the Board of Governors, Quidditch (rather fly on dragons)
Phobias: Azkaban (No, he’s not afraid of Dementors; he suffers from claustrophobia and enjoys his personal liberties, thank you very much) and abandonment (daddy issues)
Goals: Spreading his knowledge of Magizoology to the rest of the Wizarding community, meeting every creature there is, passing his legacy on to his apprentice (He, unlike most Pureblood patriarchs, is not so hell bent on producing an heir), finding someone to share his joy with (Sadly, he is not married to Porpentina from the start)
Desires: Getting his own Chocolate Frog Card, cataloguing a Chimaera, outliving Flamel (made a drunken bet, what can I say), being a renowned author, having a family (CRIES)
Secrets: Being an unregistered Animagi, which if discovered, will land him in Azkaban.
So not good. This is also quite ironic considering years later, he established the Werewolf Register. (Off topic, but I wonder what would happen if I had Newt kill Fenrir Greyback before he bit Remus? O.o)

Reactions/expressions: This one’s funny. Every time Flamel stares at Newt for prolonged periods of time (enjoys abusing his Legilimency and mage-sight because he’s a douche) , Newt puts up his average Occlumency shields, but he also blinks rapidly to throw Flamel off.
Hehe.

Blood Status: Pureblood
Wand: Maple, Kelpie hair, 11 inches, sturdy (from Gervaise Ollivander)
I was thinking of changing the core of his wand later on to something more powerful...perhaps a different magical creature?
Patronus: I need help. I have absolutely no idea….
Animagus: Help.
Familiar: More help.
Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff (Though, he would have made a damn good Gryffindor. He be slayin’ all the bad guys)
And, true story, Newt believes his father left because of him being in Hufflepuff instead of Slytherin. Proceed to bawl.
Best Core Class(es): Defence and Transfiguration
Worst Core Class(es): Potions (That’s Flamel’s divison. Newt works with instinct and not preciseness, which is why he always got an A or less.)
Electives: Care of BAMF Magical Creatures, Alchemy (guess who talked him into this), and Astronomy
Extracurriculars: Dueling Club, Stargazers (Got to chill with the centaurs after curfew, and no Sleeves, you can’t ‘ship it’- that’s wrong and it’s bestiality.)

Parents: Amaranth Scamander nee Lovette (Irish Pureblood family) and Caratacus Scamander (may be deceased, but who knows and who cares.)
Lover: I do not know how long this fic will be, but I do hope Porpentina will show up at some point…
Children: Should I have Newt and Porpentina or just Newt adopt Eccleon?
Friends/Enemies: I s’pose Eccleon could be a friend, and maybe his mentor, Nicolas Flamel.
I say ‘mentor’ loosely, because Newt is self-taught and has never done a legitimate apprenticeship. Flamel’s more of a...guide. He’s much too self-absorbed.
I will be adding full bios for Eccleon, Flamel, and brief characterizations for Amaranth, Abraxas Malfoy (enemy???), and Xenophilius’ father.
I will have Albus and Gellert (since I want to focus on Newt’s self-discovery, I will only have cameos for these two. But don’t worry! I will soon be penning an Albus and Gellert- centric!fic.)

Also, when I create that Albus/Gellert fic, I will include the entire Gaunt, Black, and Malfoy families. I would have it in this story, but it wouldn’t make sense for Newt to surround himself in their company…

Pensieve Memories: Caratacus leaving the home in drunken ire, celebrating with his mother after she got her Mediwitch certification, his conflicting conversation with the Sorting Hat, when he finally met Porpentina, his argument with Flamel on the Philosopher’s Stone, achieving his Animagus form after seven months, finding a severely Obliviated Eccleon Saber, getting FBWFT published, etc. (idc if this isn't in parallel structure)
