Do you guys use character sheets? I'm trying to figure out a way to plan out my characters, and character sheets sound like a good idea, but there are a lot of different types of character sheets, and I'm not sure what to use. What do you guys use?

Honestly, I only use character sheets when I get bored of writing. I usually go into the story with a vague idea of what the character is like and let them kind of reveal themselves to me and develop how they wish to.
But I find that just the basics work best (for me, at least).
Name, DOB, DOD, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Height, Weight, Health, Appearance, Personality, History.
Just the basics.

Okay, I was thinking I should just use the basics, but I wasn't sure. Is there anything else in particular you like to use for planning?

I like to create an outline of the plot. It keeps me from running into writer's block. These outlines vary in their level of detail. My most detailed outline is 28 pages, my least detailed is about 200 words.
It's all personal preference. Just go for it, I say. Do whatever you feel comfortable with and whatever makes you feel prepared to put pen to paper. If that's doing absolutely nothing, great. If that's writing a 50 page outline and the whole life stories of your characters, even better.
