You are fresh out of Hogwarts. Let's assume you have met with the Headmistress to choose a career path in your 5th year, and you have already taken the prerequisite courses for said career. What career field and job would you have chosen?

I would, during my 5th and/or 6th year(s), have apprenticed under Prof. Vector (Arithmancy, though I'm troll at math in the this lifetime and world), Prof. Babbling (Ancient Runes!), Mr. Flamel (ASDFGHKDDL AN HONOR), or Ollivander (though I'd prefer a less..detached-from-the-world kind of person teaching me wandlore).

Considering my preferred apprenticeships, I'd probably apply to become a Runes or Arithmancy Master- maybe both, since these electives HAVE to be taken at Hogwarts together, as they complement each other's curriculums. With these 'degrees', I would research independently, relying on my AMAZING runic magicky discoveries and spell inventions to get me paychecks. Or if all fails, I could become a Hogwarts Professor. Or share my knowledge in America. If I apprenticed under a wandmaker (NOT crazy ol' Olli), I would travel the world looking for wand woods, collecting cores, etc. As Olli said, wandlore is a very imprecise and temperamental branch of magic, so I don't think I do much more than open a store in some Wizarding shopping place (like Diagon Alley) and run it until a ripe old age, because you know, all wandmakers are old (and wise??).
If I learned under Nicolas Flamel (HE IS NOT DEAD KIRSTEN GOSH THIS IS MY HEADCANON), I would probably have gathered a lot of secrets about magic. I suppose I could become anything I wanted. I could finally create a real panacea (because he had tons of Potions wisdom) or invent really anything to further ease day-to-day life. Make a phony Philosopher's Stone and watch in amusement as people try to steal it for their own benefit. Hehe.

Taking a less independent (and low salary) approach, I might take a job at the Ministry. And no, not as a stupid employee or someone in the political spotlight. I mean in the obscure department you have to swear an Oath to get into. Yes, folks, I'm talking about *dun dun dun* the Unspeakables.
Now, Unspeakables have several divisions within the their department (I'd imagine so, because our dear Rowling never gave much to go on). There are Unspeakables that deal with cursebreaking, dangerous artifacts, new species, space exploration etc. That sounds a wee bit too hands on.
I might be part of the booky divisions. They probably have an even more restricted section that Hogwarts that I'd spend my time in. Like researching what really happens after death, because remember, there are ghosts and such. What happens when a person like Sirius crosses the Veil? Where does he/she go?
AND MY FAVORITE: The Temporal Division. Yeah, I know. It's great. You are in charge of regulating time travel and even testing/improving time turners yourself. I'd probably not get to have a real family with any of these professions but whatevs. There are sacrifices.

Yes, that's fine; apprenticeships are not required- only recommended, because you get to learn from the master themselves. Plus, they might have some good connections;) Dragons, you say? Dragon tamer is definitely a choice for you. I suggest you pack your bags and go to Romania.

*splutters* Wha-wha-WHA???
Nicolas Flamel died in 1992- he was 665 years old. Don't suppose he knew Merlin, eh?
Well, that's sad. But it IS a headcanon for a reason! In my mental image of the magical world, Flamel is alive. He would 686 today. *sniffles*

I would be a bar maid. Obviously. Or a yes man.
But in all seriousness, I would do one of the following:
Try for Minister. Really just so I could reform the Wizarding World.
Failing this, I would become a Dark Lord (Lady?). If I can't bring about change legally, why not illegally? I mean, everyone in the Wizarding World is so stupid, it really shouldn't be at all hard to topple the government. Voldemort is just an idiot for not having been able to do it within, like, a month.
I would also possibly leave Wizarding Britain altogether and move to Muggle America, where I would use my Magic to become rich and famous and possibly conquer the Muggle World. I would get Arctura to make me a wand that can't be traced by any of the Wizarding governments.
For a more realistic (and less fun) goal, I think it would be really awesome to be an Unspeakable. I have no idea what chamber I would want to work in though.

Also, have you tried typing "Vol-de-mort?" It shows up as "You-Know-Who." Haha.

What is a yes man anyway? Actually, don't tell me. Don't wanna know. And you would be a Dark Lady, Sleeves. But I can't imagine you as the Minister. Maybe the Undersecretary that is the brains behind the Minister, but not the figurehead itself. Seriously though, there should be a competition between several Dark Lords/Ladies to see who can conquer Wizarding Great Britain -nay, the world- in all facets first. Conquering Wizarding Britain politically is just too easy. You-Know-Who literally just Imperiused a Death Eater. Honestly. Yay! We could be Unspeakable buddies! Do you think your chamber/division would be more field or research? Basically, a higher risk of death or not? Lol voldemort

OMG How did you do that? It's kind of like what you can do on the iPhone. You can substitute words for other words (mostly as an autocorrect type thing). How do you do that in admin settings?

that You-Know-Who thing is really cool.
I suppose the only dragonologist we really know about is Charlie Wesley. But i'm not sure what kind of a master he'd make...

Yeah, dragon tamer is a really cool profession- though VERY dangerous:) Suppose that streak runs in the family. Bill was a cursebreaker and Ron -I'm assuming- became an Auror. Kirsten, in your profile, I think you can edit to make a custom title, like how I'm "Apprentice to Mstr. Flamel" and Sleeves is "A Dastardly Fellow". You should be "The Dragon Tamer" or something.
